🧪 How to test Ovemio
One for customers, one for bulk buyers — every step of the way.
For customers: the 24-hour test
The trial runs for 24 hours, once per device and only on Android. Everything except the extra URLs is unlocked. You need no account, no e-mail address and no payment details. There is nothing to cancel: when the time runs out, the app goes quiet — nothing more happens.
All you need to provide is your own source — your provider’s login details, an M3U playlist or files on your NAS. Ovemio doesn’t come with any channels, films or playlists. Without a source, you’ll see an empty but fully functional app.
Which of the two paths is yours?
How you access the app depends on where it comes from. This also determines which device you’ll start with — check here first before you install anything.
| Route A | You’ve got your login details to hand: server address, username, password — or an M3U address. Start on your mobile, not on the box. It’s easiest to type on your mobile, or copying and pasting is quickest; then you can send everything to the box via a QR code. That’s the most convenient way. |
|---|---|
| Route B | If your provider uses Ovemio themselves, you don’t have to type a thing: just give them the box number, and they’ll send the licence, login details and film data all in one go to your device. |
Steps 1 and 2 are the same for both routes. After that, they diverge.
Step 1 — Download the app
If you choose option A, download them to your mobile first and then to the box. If you choose option B, the box is all you need.
| Android TV box | The easiest way is a USB stick or the Downloader app. In Downloader you enter the code 6434105; instead of the code, the address ovemio.com/app/Ovemio.apk also works. Or you start the TV box's browser, go to ovemio.com and download the app directly there. Android asks once whether it may install apps from this source — this permission applies to the app you download with. It is needed because Ovemio does not yet come from the Play Store. |
|---|---|
| Mobile phone, tablet | Download the APK and open the file. The same one-off prompt. |
| Windows | Download the setup file, double-click it. On first launch Windows reports “Windows protected your PC” and names an unknown publisher. This is not a virus detection. Click “More info”, then “Run anyway”. There is no 24-hour trial on Windows. |
| iPhone, iPad | In preparation. |
The files are available on the downloads page. Always use the version linked there — the app will notify you automatically later if a new one is available.
Step 2 — Start the test
When Ovemio is launched for the first time, it displays the activation screen. This screen offers three options:
| Activate | For anyone who already has a licence key. |
|---|---|
| Send via mobile phone | The TV box shows a QR code. Ovemio on your Android phone, where the licence is already entered, scans it and sends the key across. |
| Try it for 24 hours | The test. Press a button, start straight away, no further input required. |
Tap ‘24-hour trial’. After that, the top of the screen will show how long the trial has left: ‘Trial version — 23 hours 58 mins remaining’.
The test takes place before you gain access, not afterwards. So you don’t need to enter anything before you can take the test — activate it first, then set it up.
If, instead, a message appears:
| Already used | The test is valid once per device. A second attempt on the same box is not permitted. Please try it on another device — or get in touch via the contact form. |
|---|---|
| No trial accounts available | All test stations are currently in use. Please try again later. |
| Not available on this device | The app was unable to identify the device definitively. This can happen with some emulators and heavily modified systems. |
Option A — enter the details on your mobile, then scan the QR code to access the box
The order is the key: set up your mobile fully first, then transfer the data. Typing in a server address using the remote control is tedious and prone to errors — a transposed digit can mean ten minutes of searching. On your mobile, it takes just a minute.
On your mobile, you enter where the channels should come from. There are four options:
| Xtream | The most common case. You need the server address, user name and password. The address looks like http://server.tv:80 — with a port, without a trailing slash. |
|---|---|
| M3U | A ready-made list address, for example http://provider.com/list.m3u. Enough for channels, but usually brings no film database with it. |
| MAC | For accounts issued to a device identifier (00:1A:79:12:34:56). |
| NAS, your own files | Films, series and pictures from the device, from a USB stick or from the NAS via WebDAV, HTTP or FTP, also with username and password. |
Typing errors in the address are the most common reason why something ‘doesn’t work’. Check http versus https and that the port is correct. Check on your mobile to see if any channels are coming through — whatever works here will also work on the box later on.
Once everything is set up, you can transfer it. To do this, you’ll need both devices side by side:
| 1. On the box | Settings → Licences and access → “Add or change playlist” → “Pair with phone (receive data)”. The TV box now shows a QR code and below it a 12-character pairing code. |
|---|---|
| 2. On your mobile phone | Settings → Licences and access → ‘Add or change playlist’ → ‘Transfer to box (send data)’. |
| 3. Connect | Scan the TV box's QR code with the phone — or type in the 12-character code if the camera won't cooperate. |
| 4. Done | The box handles the connection and settings and displays the message ‘Data received — being processed …’. |
The transmission is encrypted; the key is contained within the pairing code itself. The server only sees an unreadable block, which can be retrieved exactly once and expires after ten minutes. Any login details you save on your mobile phone remain on that mobile phone.
The same method is also available for the licence key alone: ‘Transfer licence via mobile phone’ — useful if you already have access and are just missing the key.
Option B — just state the box number, nothing else
If your provider uses Ovemio themselves, you don’t have to type anything. You just give them a number, and they’ll take care of the rest.
The box number appears in two places on your device: during setup when you first start it up, and later under Settings → Licences and access, in the Remote setup section. It is an eight-digit number and remains with the device permanently — it does not change if you reinstall the app.
Give this number to your provider, either by phone or in writing. They will enter it into their BigC support app and send you a package containing the licence, access details and film data all in one.
| What you need to do | Read out the number or write it down. Nothing else. |
|---|---|
| How long it takes | Leave the number on screen until your provider has finished sending. As long as it is visible, the box checks every five seconds, so the package usually arrives straight away. You don’t need a QR code. |
| How you can tell | The activation screen will open automatically as soon as the licence arrives. You don’t need to press anything or restart anything. |
The transmission is end-to-end encrypted — the server only relays it and cannot open the package. And nobody gets onto your device without your permission: the first time, the box accepts a package only while it is showing its number, and only from a provider we have approved. So a guessed number is of no use. After that, no other provider can send it anything.
Some providers send the login details in a sealed format. In this case the app works with them as normal but does not show you the server addresses, password or TMDB key. You see the username and, of the addresses, at most their name, and you can still switch between them. This is intentional on the provider’s part and is not a fault.
With Option B, the package usually includes the TMDB key. In that case, the next section does not apply to you.
Enable film data (optional)
The app retrieves trailers, release years, age ratings, genres and descriptions from The Movie Database. To do this, you’ll need your own free key. Without it, these fields remain blank — and without warning: the trailer button won’t even appear in the first place.
For Option A, it’s best to enter it on your mobile before you transfer it — that way, it’ll be transferred to the box and you’ll only have to do it once. Under Settings → Film data (TMDB), it takes about two minutes:
- Create a free account on themoviedb.org.
- Go to: Settings → API → Request a key, select ‘personal/private’ as the usage.
- Enter the key into Ovemio and activate it.
If you’ve received a branded app from a provider, the key is usually already built in. In that case, you don’t need to do anything here.
What you should check within 24 hours
24 hours is enough to sort out the questions that can’t be put off until later. The four most frequently asked questions are:
| Will my box be able to handle it? | Settings → Support → Performance test. In about a minute, this measures processing power, interface responsiveness, memory — and, most importantly, how much of the image the box can display on the screen. Do not do anything else whilst the test is running, otherwise it will also measure the impact of other tasks. |
|---|---|
| Does it stutter in the evenings? | Run the test deliberately during peak hours. Under Settings → Playback → Buffer, you can select ‘Learnt’: the app will then find the appropriate buffer size itself. |
| Is my connection working properly? | Flick through a few channels, put a film on, fast-forward once. If you don’t notice it within 24 hours, you usually won’t notice it at all. |
| Will my household manage? | Create a second profile, set the age rating, and go through the settings using the remote control. |
When the trial period has expired
When the trial period expires, the app will display the message “The trial period has expired” and return to the activation screen. Your accounts, profiles and settings will remain intact — you’ll just need to enter the key.
A licence costs €9.99 (incl. VAT) once and covers three devices of your choice, freely spread across box, phone, tablet and Windows. The licence is not a subscription and does not renew. Every update to major version 1 is included for the base version. Premium services that we offer separately are excluded; currently that is only the extra URLs. They are free until 30 September 2027 and can then be added as a separate annual subscription for €10. The packages are on the pricing page.
You can enter the key under Settings → Licences and access. There, you can also see which devices are using the licence and release one — for example, if you’ve sold a box or set it up again.
Keep the e-mail with the key. It is your proof of purchase — once gone, it is gone.
If you don’t want to buy anything, just delete the app. Nothing else will happen, you won’t be charged, and nobody will contact you.
For bulk buyers: the whole district
As a bulk buyer, you resell Ovemio under your own name. Before you purchase a package, you should have gone through the entire process yourself: generating a licence, redeeming it on a box, seeing the customer in your list, having a chat, and opening a remote support session.
You don’t have to pay anything for this: every new account created is given a seven-day trial licence. Create an account, set up two-factor authentication, and get started.
Allow just under an hour. Most of that time will be spent setting up the box — you can get to grips with the portal itself in ten minutes.
Volume buyers, Step 1 — Create an account
Access is free and available straight away. Sign up at ovemio.com/grossabnehmer.php. You’ll need a username, display name, email address and a password of at least ten characters.
Nobody can reset this password. The credentials of your playlist are encrypted in your browser, with a key derived from this password. It never leaves your computer — we never get to see it either. If you forget the password, these credentials are lost and have to be entered again. Your licences, customers and your history are kept. Keep it the way you keep a key.
Volume customers, Step 2 — Setting up two-factor authentication
This isn’t a minor detail, but the very first step after logging in. Without two-factor authentication, you can access the portal, but you won’t be able to generate licences or view customers — every action you attempt will result in the message: ‘Please set up two-factor authentication first’.
Under ‘Security’: Scan the QR code using an authenticator app, enter the code, and make a note of the backup codes. The audit log is also available there — every login, every licence generated and deactivated, with the time and date.
Only one session can be signed in at a time. If a second browser signs in, it sees a notice with the time and can take over — the first is then thrown out. That is deliberate: an account two people work with at the same time is an account two people have.
Volume Licence, Step 3 — your trial licence
Every new account created comes with a free trial licence: valid for seven days, with no obligation to buy. You don’t need to apply for it or wait for anyone — it’s ready to use as soon as two-factor authentication has been set up.
With this single licence, you can go through the whole process: redeem it on a box, see the customer appear in your list, message them, open the remote support session, and find the whole thing in BigC.
Seven days is plenty of time for the technical side, but not quite enough for demonstration sessions. Start with the box rather than the portal — you can get through the portal in ten minutes, whereas a stubborn box will take an entire evening.
Also possible without making a purchase:
| View the portal | All the tabs are there: Overview, Buy Packages, My Customers, My App, Group Message, Migration. |
|---|---|
| Preparing your own app | The app name, font, logo, colour scheme, fixed server addresses and TMDB key can be entered and saved before the generator is activated. |
| Check the support chain | Support code, the customer list, chat and remote maintenance also work on a device that does not have a licence from you. |
If your trial licence has been used up or has expired, the ‘My Customers’ tab will display ‘No allowance’. From then on, you’ll need a package. Packages are available under the ‘Buy Packages’ tab; if you pay by card, your allowance will be credited within seconds. If you pay by bank transfer, PayPal or cryptocurrency, you’ll receive a reference number which you must quote when making the payment.
The App Generator — an app under your own name — unlocks by itself with the first paid package (from 100 licences), below that on request. Quota and licences arrive right after payment. You can fill in and save everything beforehand.
Volume Licence Customers, Step 4 — Generate a licence
First, set up the licence under the ‘My Customers’ tab → ‘Create Licence’ — and do this before you go to the box, not whilst you’re in the middle of it. Select the type — a subscription with a duration in days or a one-off licence with no expiry date —, add an internal note about it, and you’re done. Your trial licence will expire automatically after seven days; you won’t need to do anything afterwards.
The key is displayed just once. There is only one copy of it in the database; we cannot recover it. Copy it straight away to where it belongs — that is why this step is done before you go to the box, and not whilst you are there.
Wholesale customers, Step 5 — Download and log in to BigC
BigC is an Android app of its own alongside Ovemio — for you, not for your customers. It shows customers, licences, messages and error reports and lets you help while out and about.
Get it before you go to the box, not afterwards — you’ll need it for the next step. Download it from ovemio.com/app/BigC.apk and install it just like any other APK. Log in using the same credentials as on the portal, including your two-factor authentication code; without it, nothing will work here either.
Volume buyers, Step 6 — setting up a box
Your customers can access a set-up device in two ways. Try both of them out during the test — then you’ll know what to say on the phone.
Option B: your day-to-day routine. The customer installs Ovemio, reads out their box number to you and puts their phone down. You, in BigC: Set up a customer’s box, select Box number mode, enter the number. Then you wrap up the parcel:
| Licence | The key you generated in step 4. |
|---|---|
| Access (Line) | Up to three accounts, each with your customer’s username and password and up to ten domains from the “Domains” tab. There you decide for each domain whether the customer sees it, only a name or nothing. |
| Film details | Optionally your TMDB key. If you pass it on to paying customers, you need your own agreement with TMDB (partner terms § 8). If you leave the field empty, the customer enters their own. |
| Hide data | Switch. On means: the app works with the login details but never shows the server addresses, password or TMDB key. The customer sees the username and, of the addresses, at most their name. |
Everything goes out in one piece, end-to-end encrypted; the server only relays it and cannot open the package. Remote setup requires an approved account with two-factor sign-in switched on. For the first package, the number must still be showing on the box or have disappeared no more than 15 minutes earlier, otherwise the server refuses. From then on the box is yours and you can reach it at any time; it checks every 90 seconds. The customer doesn’t have to scan or press anything.
Without the box number nobody gets onto someone else’s device, and a guessed number is of no use: as long as a box belongs to no one, it accepts a package only while it is showing its number. The customer shows it to you — that is their consent.
Option A, if the customer sets it up themselves. Customers with their own server details use the QR method: download the app onto their mobile, enter all the details there, open the app on the box, then transfer the details from the mobile to the box using the QR code. Give it a go yourself — not because you need it, but because customers will ask you about it.
For a branded app, the TMDB key belongs in the ‘My App’ tab in the portal, not in each individual customer installation. Without it, the trailer, year, age rating and genres will remain blank in all your customers’ apps.
Whichever method you choose: as soon as the licence has been activated, the device will appear under ‘My Customers’ — showing the device type, the number of slots in use and the licence expiry date. One licence covers three devices.
Volume customers, Step 7 — Support code, chat, remote maintenance
Your support code can be found at the top of the ‘My Customers’ tab. You should give this to your customers. They enter it in the app under Settings → Support → Connect with provider, and will then appear in your account — even if they didn’t get the app from you.
You can also check this part using a device that doesn’t have a licence registered to you: take one on a 24-hour trial, enter your support code and see if it appears in your customer list. Then:
| Chat | Start a conversation with this customer; it will appear directly in their app. Replies are received straight away. |
|---|---|
| Remote maintenance | The customer opens Settings → Support → Remote Support and reads out the code displayed to you. The code expires and is only valid for this one session — unless the customer reads it out, nobody can access their device, not even you. |
| Circular | A message to all your customers at once; it’s waiting in their support chat. For announcements such as maintenance or a server change. |
Never send login details via chat. Although the messages are end-to-end encrypted and the server cannot access them, the recipient can read them — and a password has no place there.
That means you’ve now gone through the whole process once: generated a licence, set up the box, met with the customer, written to them and carried out remote maintenance.
Volume buyers, Step 8 — the demonstration version
For appointments with customers, in addition to the sales version – which the customer unlocks with a key – there is also the demo version: this starts immediately and ends after the set time. Both are created in the ‘My App’ tab.
The demo version should have its own demo account, which you can deactivate at any time — never a real customer’s account. Anyone who reverse-engineers the APK will be able to read it; this cannot, in principle, be prevented in an app that is designed to log in automatically.
If you change the server address at a later date, simply enter the new one in the ‘Migration’ tab. Your customers’ apps will update automatically the next time they’re launched — nobody has to type anything in and nobody needs to ring you.
